Cricket is the 5-year-old tug-of-war victim between her parents, Stormy Waters and Jeremiah Hopper. Cricket is a soft-spoken child who just wants to be loved by her dad, her mom, and her grandma. She is also the unspoken conscience to nearly every person in her life. As quiet as she is however, it surprises everyone when it's ultimately revealed just what it is that Cricket knows. 

Jeremiah, or Jerry, as everyone knows him, is the hard working 29-year-old single father to Cricket Hopper. He was with Stormy until life circumstances caused her to turn her back on him. He is a far better parent than Stormy, and their conflicts cause tumultuous rifts in the relationship, but Cricket pays for the turmoil. Jerry is moving on though in more than one way, and now enjoys spending time with Spring Summer, a fellow co-worker at the bank where Jerry works.

Wannabe. That's the best word we can use to describe Weasel, the  24-year-old boyfriend to Stormy Waters. When we say "wannabe," Weasel wishes he was like the gangstas from the city, instead of pretending to be one here in podunk Clementwood. But wait, as they say; there's more! Weasel is also mounting local teen Tonya Foyer (what a stand-up guy).

Taye is a 17-year-old resident of Clemetwood and another lover to Weasel Jessup. She's estranged from her mom and has been a product of "the system" for years. Still, she's never been in trouble with the police, though that's not to say she doesn't have a secret or two. Ans those secrets have had defined most of her life.

Carter is the 27-year-old best friend to Jeremiah. Coincidentally he has been best friends with Stormy Waters since they were kids. He dated her in high school as well, but after an undisclosed irreconcilable difference, they broke up shortly before he introduced Stormy to Jeremiah. He also works at the bank with Jeremiah and Spring.

Spring, the current 38-year-old girlfriend of Jeremiah Hopper, works at the bank where he and Carter James are employed.  However, humble but funny Spring has deep secrets that thread through the lives of nearly every character, some in more subtle and unrecognizable ways than others.

Rose is the 48-year-old adoptive mother to Stormy and therefore the grandmother to Cricket. She is more a mom to Cricket than her own mother, since Stormy has enough trouble looking after Stormy. She's also very close to Jeremiah and treats him like she's his surrogate mother. Her relationship with Stormy is not a happy one and she is disappointed in the woman she has always considered her daughter.
